Révész, Imre Girl portrait

Révész, Imre: Girl portrait
private collection China

Description

Imre Révész, who studied in Vienna and Paris, also worked with Mihály Munkácsy. In the Austrian capital, his attention was focused on the techniques of lithography, and he "studied" professional tricks from certain masters named Griepenkerl and Müller. The Viennese papers already wrote about his works during his studies (1873-1875), so he was not unknown in artistic circles. We find Imré Révész in this country from 1878, when he attended the Academy of Fine Arts with Bertalan Székely. He only spent a short time in Hungary, studying again at the Academy of Arts in Vienna in order to improve his professional knowledge. He spent the summers at home during his studies. He made portraits of his friends and acquaintances. In addition to his portraits, naturalist-style folk portraits and historical genre paintings bear the imprint of his hand. "Portrait of a Girl" is undoubtedly one of Révész's most beautifully done portraits. From the page drawn with colored chalk, a rosy-faced young girl with her hair in a bun looks at the viewer. Kindness radiates from his gentle gaze and smile. Not only her earrings, but her Madonna-like beauty make the portrait shine.
Révész's compositions, which also work with watercolors, pastels and charcoal, testify to sure lines and great drawing skills. The naturalistic "Portrait of a Girl" drawn with few colors and soft lines is also like this.
