Description

The Hungarian folk art and folk costumes inspired the art of Eszter Mattioni, who first studied at the Academy of Applied Arts where her master was Ferenc Helbing, then continued at the Academy of Fine Arts where her teacher was Gyula Rudnay. Her  artwork was inspired by the style and approach of Vilmos Aba-Novák, Bernáth Aurél and Pál Pátzay. In Hun gary apart from Budapest and Szolnok, she visited many other cities: Szentendre, Igalo, Kalotaszeg, Sióagárd. She was driven by an important purpose to collect themes and motifs for her paintings, she researched the "treasures" of folk art. The "Hungarian girl in traditional dress" painted with oil on wood panel was inspired also by the folk art. From the composition, a little girl with beauty face, wearing a flower-patterned dress and a decorative headdress, looks at us seriously. Due to her almond-shaped dark eyes and small pursed lips, you can just look with love this toy-doll-like beauty, who fixes his unflinching gaze on us with the openness of children. Her festive outfit, colorful flowers and pearls make the portrait more shine. The icon-like image of the girl with the gilded background elevates Hungarian folk tradition and culture to sacred level.
