Marco Veronese Memory 6
Description
The artwork was inspired by Jacopo Pontormo's Florentine Mannerist altarpiece from 1528, on which the two blessed women: Maria and Elizabeth meet. What is "surreal" in the scene: instead of the two female figures, we see four female figures, but the four female figures are still two: behind Mária and Elizabeth are their future (or past?) counterparts. The supernatural nature of the scene is conveyed by the resolution of the traditional "space-time structure".
