János Duschanek (1947-2013) | Magical world

2025. February 21. - March 16.

János Duschanek was born in Bakonyszentlászló in Hungary. The painter Lajos Cziráki played important role in his career. Duschanek attended a course led by the Munkácsy award-winning artist, where he could build his skills, and then continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he became one of Aurél Bernáth's last students. From 1997 until his retirement, he worked as an art teacher at the Vocational School of Fine and Applied Arts.

His painting is a unique color spot for the domestic scene. His artworks are surrealistic paintings with specific symbolism, in which figural scenes of strange visions come to life. Figures, animals, and mythological creatures dressed in Renaissance clothes stand on the compositions reminiscent of the art of Dalí and De Chirico, reminiscent of the pictorial world of Italian and Dutch masters. His carefully edited pictures bring to life past but not forgotten ages.

At our chamber exhibition, in addition to the artist's paintings, we also present his unique colorful and small-scale drawings and prints which can be purchased during the exhibition. We would like János Duschanek's life work to occupy a worthy place in our memory. The exhibited artworks include titles such as the oil canvas and published "Icaros", the "1.of April" or the "Scientist", the colored pencil drawing the "Biblical Illustrations", the lithograph "In the Moonlight", or the pencil on paper "Nude Studies". Pastel-colored pictures with a special atmosphere, delicate lines, which reflect the Italian and Dutch influences characteristic of the Duschans. The serene atmosphere and harmony of his pictures elevates the master to the ranks of the classics.

Our gallery thanks for the help to creating the exhibition for Julianna Mészáros, János Duschanek's wife.
